· Injured Workers
FUTURES REHAB has a unique and highly successful approach to injured worker treatment and case coordination which is proven to reduce lost time days, prevent chronicity, decrease the cost of workers' compensation claims and promote earlier return to work. The key components to this approach are: ¨ Early intervention after injury or report of symptoms. ¨ Designated medical team with shared philosophy and procedures that are pre-determined by the employer ¨ Employee education and self-responsibility ¨ Use of return to work and transitional duty ¨ Ongoing and effective communication between all involved parties
· Musculoskeletal Conditions At Futures Rehab and Futures Fit 4 Work, we look at a musculoskeletal injury from all angles to determine the underlying cause of the injury and create solutions to limit the influence of aggravating factors. We treat the injury using cutting-edge, hands-on techniques that decrease pain and restore function, including myofascial release, mobilization of the spine and extremities, and counterstrain. We view the injury in context of the whole person and provide injury specific home exercise programs that can be used to provide our patients with long lasting relief from pain and timely restoration of function.
· Acute and Chronic Pain The average individual is typically pain free at birth. Throughout the aging process our bodies are subjected to internal and external forces that cause our natural state of proper alignment and function to change. Whether the force is sudden, such as a lifting injury, fall or car accident, or slow and insidious as seen with chronic poor posture, the body is changed from its original alignment and its ability move with the least possible resistance. The extent of the changes in body position and the level of stress imposed on the body is associated with the degree of pain and dysfunction the individual experiences. Pain that is associated with a single, and generally, sudden event is generally referred to as acute pain, where chronic pain is typically considered pain that has been present at least six months and may have multiple causative factors. Acute pain is usually more immediately responsive to Physical Therapy treatment. FUTURES REHAB therapists’ results have decreased the amount of treating time required for success to less than that of the national average for acute, work related, injuries. Treatment focuses on achieving improved alignment and pain relief through soft tissue techniques and deficit specific exercises. Individuals suffering with chronic pain generally demonstrate signs and symptoms in additional areas not apparently related to their original problem or injury. This is due to the overall structural changes the body undergoes to attempt to compensate for prolonged dysfunction and pain. Chronic pain approaches at FUTURES REHAB focus on decreasing the resultant postural deficits and overall dysfunction. Through a variety of soft tissue and deficit specific approaches, the therapist addresses the cause of the deficits as opposed to just treating symptomatically. This has a much higher chance of allowing the individual to enjoy lasting results.
· Cumulative Trauma Disorders/Repetitive Motion Injury
· Neurologic Impairments Injuries of the nervous system can be painful and debilitating. Whether due to a painful nerve inflammation in the arm or leg, or the loss of function as the result of a stroke, FUTURES REHAB utilizes a therapeutic approach that will provide pain relief and restoration of function. Conditions such as neuritis, pinched nerves, and fibromyalgia are treated utilizing customized pain relieving techniques and a specialized exercise program to relieve symptoms and thereby increase independence and ability.
· Post-Surgical and Scar Treatment After an injury, the human body attempts to regain the integrity and function of its external and internal structures through the formation of scar tissue. This tissue is strong connective tissue that bridges from one side of the injury to the other. After a surgical procedure or injury, scar tissue forms in random patterns inside the wound to maximize the healing process. Unfortunately, the normal stresses that allow the tissues to mold to the direction the healing tissues need to move are not always present. Under these circumstances, the scar tissue causes the different layers of tissue to adhere to themselves. This process creates a restriction of the tissues and frequently leads to inability of that body part to function in its previous manner. The modified forces on those tissues may cause regional or full-body postural alignment changes, which in turn may, over time, lead to a condition of pain.
The unique process of post-surgical and traumatic scar treatment utilized at FUTURES REHAB focuses on using gentle forces to break down the abnormal connections between the layers of tissue, thus allowing the tissues to, once again, move freely. This assists the therapist in restoring the client to a more normal body alignment and, ultimately, a decrease in pain.
